Story Synopsis

The jack-of-all trades, Bert, introduces us to England in 1910 and the troubled Banks family. Young Jane and Michael have sent many a nanny packing before Mary Poppins arrives on their doorstep. Using a combination of magic and common sense, she must teach the family members how to value each other again. Mary Poppins takes the children on many magical and memorable adventures, but Jane and Michael aren’t the only ones upon whom she has a profound effect. Even grown-ups can learn a lesson or two from the nanny who advises that “Anything can happen if you let it.” Mary Poppins is an enchanting mixture of irresistible story, unforgettable songs, breathtaking dance numbers and astonishing stagecraft!

Audition Details

Auditions will be held in a small group format and consist of cold reads from the script. We will make every effort to allow you to read for a specific character if you wish and if a side and the time is available, HOWEVER, by auditioning you understand you may not be cast in the role you want (or may not be cast at all) and agree that if you are cast, to play whatever role you are cast in to the best of your ability. Please come in clothes that allow freedom of movement while allowing you to remain appropriately covered. Out of respect for the age range and for your safety, crop tops, tube tops, sports bras with no over shirt, short shorts or skirts, high heels, and/or open toed shoes are strongly discouraged. Hair should be styled so that it remains out of your face during the audition process. We appreciate you dressing to impress, however, we also want you to be comfortable and able to move!
This is a musical! Auditions will be conducted in your audition group with each person singing the song they have prepared, a short bit of choreography, and Cold Reads from the script itself. Come prepared to show a wide range of characters! (character descriptions will be available at auditions, however auditioners are encouraged to research the show and characters on their own.) Your prepared song should be a Disney or Broadway song between 30 seconds and 1 minute in length. Please come prepared with a musical backing track in a karaoke format, meaning no vocals should be on your track. There are many karaoke tracks available on YouTube. Please come with a device (phone, iPad, etc) that we can play your music off of. We will have a speaker and cords available for you to use to plug in, and the possibility to Bluetooth to the speaker itself. Please have your music cued to the specific start time you will be beginning your song cut at. You are also free (and encouraged!) to email your music cut directly to the office at artsview@artsviewact.com and we can play your music for you. If you do email your track, please include your name, your audition date and time, and the beginning and ending time stamp of your prepared cut. Register for your audition time after reading all information here by clicking the link. Please arrive 15 minutes before your audition time to fill out required Audition Paperwork. Parents, please be prepared to help your children and available to sign the paperwork. Check the rehearsal and performance dates on the calendar here for scheduling conflicts. Be sure to list these on your Audition Sign Up and on the Audition Information Sheets that will be available at auditions. Please double check the section above for audition details and come prepared with and to perform your audition selections. All specific audition information is above and arriving prepared will help your audition experience. Please wear comfortable, modest clothing and athletic sneakers, dance/jazz shoes. You may learn a short bit of choreography to determine movement ability. Be prepared to take direction and be willing to show character traits. Please keep in mind that your audition group may include anyone ranging from the age of 10 – 18 years of age. We request your song and dress be appropriate for this age range as we cannot guarantee you won’t be in a group with a much younger or older auditioner.

Rehearsal Dates

Rehearsals are very important. We do try our best to work around conflicts that are disclosed at the time of auditions/at the Parent Cast Meeting. Conflicts will not necessarily prevent you from being cast, however this is a case by case basis depending on the amount of conflicts. Also, an addition of last minute conflicts may result in being asked to leave the show if the amount of conflicts becomes excessive.
Rehearsals will be every Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and some Saturdays beginning Thursday, June 19th – July 17th. Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, will rehearse from 6-9pm.
